The Molecule Lab, in numbers
Every figure we publish, with the definition it is counted under. This page exists because two of these numbers are easy to confuse: a market is a jurisdiction a formula is checked against and gets a verdict for, while a jurisdiction is any regulatory body whose data feeds those verdicts. There are 11 of the first and 30+ of the second.
Hand-maintained figures last verified 2026-09-27.
Published figures
| Figure | Value | What it counts |
|---|---|---|
| Formula-check markets | 11derived | Jurisdictions a complete formula is checked against and returns a per-market verdict for. Derived from the compliance engine's own market list, so it cannot drift from what the product does. |
| Jurisdictions | 30+ | Regulatory bodies whose data feeds those verdicts, including hazard and assessment bodies that do not have a market of their own. Broader than markets, and not interchangeable with them. |
| Regulatory frameworks | 20+ | Regulatory instruments — annexes, directives and standards — represented in the data. |
| Regulatory datasets | 54derived | Distinct source datasets the search engine draws on, counted from the annex registry. A dataset is one authority's published list, such as an EU CosIng annex or the FDA prohibited-substances list. |
| Annex detail pages | 55derived | One page per market-and-annex pair, describing what that specific dataset contains and which fields it carries. |
| Ingredients | 32,000+ | Substances resolvable by INCI name or CAS number in the searchable database. |
| Public REST endpoints | 9derived | Paths published in the machine-readable OpenAPI description. Counted as paths, not operations: one path serving GET and POST is one endpoint. |
“Derived” figures are read from the engine and asserted by a test that fails the build if the published number and the real one disagree.

What these numbers do not say
Coverage is not clearance. A substance with no entry in a market's dataset is reported as not assessed, never as permitted, and a market counted here may hold data on one annex rather than every rule that market publishes.
Every authority behind a verdict is listed on regulatory sources, and each dataset has its own page under markets.
